Letters of Love (L.O.L.) is a new club that Paige Lawrence, L.O.L. president, 12, and Abbie Sappington, L.O.L. vice president, 12, started this year. They asked Leslie Jurgensmeyer, English teacher, to sponsor this international club at RHS.
L.O.L began as a place for kids to write letters supporting others in children’s hospitals. Recently, they spread love to Ukraine, where letters are sent to refugee mothers and their children.
“I heard from my friend about the club and after doing some research, I kind of fell in love with it,” Lawrence said.
The RHS chapter plans its own events. They send club cards internationally to children’s hospitals, Sappington said.
L.O.L meets on Club Day One in the Lecture Hall. They have no club fees; instead, the whole organization gets donations from sponsors. The individual chapters get their card supplies from the main club whenever needed.
“The message behind the Letters of Love [is] getting to help kids so far away all around the United States,” said Lawerence. “Just giving them the coolest little things ever is amazing in my opinion.”
