The bright light of the sun shines down on Whitey Smith Stadium as RHS football players practice for their next challenging season.
Coaches help football athletes work hard in practice to perfect their sports and improve specific sweet spots of their game. This makes them stronger on game day.
For former Arkansas State defensive lineman, it is important for the freshmen’s defense to be on point, and they help to perfect this defense in practice.
“The best thing is repetition, you got to have repetition,” said Javier Carbonell, freshmen defensive coordinator. “If the players don’t understand what they’re doing, you’re going to be in trouble. It doesn’t matter what you call.”
The freshmen workout everyday early in the morning in the weight room and on the track to be prepared for the peak performance they can give on game day.
̈The freshmen report at 6:50 a.m. to condition, fade into competition, then finally transition into the weight room, Carbonell said.
Dale Williams’ love for the sport led him to being the defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach for the varsity football team.
“There’s a great sense of happiness, I want to call it that, when you see your players doing things very very well,” Williams said.
The varsity team reaches for greatness in practice as it is a time for growth and development for their extensive games.
They do things that are functional and they do not want the athletes to sacrifice technique for weight, Williams said.
Williams works out his players to be sure of being the best performance athlete they can be on the field.
“All we ask for is to work hard and practice great technique, to me that’s growth,” Williams said.
