Many upcoming video games are gaining popularity among Rogers High School staff and students. The single player games coming out in 2024-2025, could help restore the excitement that the digital world hasn’t seen in a while.
The newer games, like Silent Hill 2 or Still Wake The Deep, are described as Intense and suspenseful with many new additions to older themes, featuring a great storyline and incorporating new elements into the new game that weren’t in the first one. Some games, like Silent Hill 2, serve as a continuation of the first, while others introduce completely new plots.
“I am very excited for Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition, It is mostly post-apocalyptic and about robot dinosaurs,” said Zachariah Vazquez, 10.
All the excitement for the newer games stems from sequels to popular games. They’ve become popular and the developers have started making follow-ups. Developers like Activision, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, will release Oct. 25, 2024, and Rockstar Games with Grand Theft Auto 6 will release in the fall of 2025.
“Everybody is looking forward to GTA 6, which will come out fall next year,” said Robert Turney, Esports advisor.
With a surge of new single-player combat games, fans may start to lose interest in first-person shooters. As the gaming industry evolves and diversifies, it will be interesting to see how the new preferences and criticism of these games unfold.
“First-person shooters are going to start to kind of not be as interesting, and I think there’s going to be a different focus on single-player games,” Turney said.
The trailer for GTA 6 has managed to obtain 209 million reviews over a fairly short amount of time.
“There were speculations that GTA 6 might be delayed to 2026, which, however, turned out to be fake news,” according to 80 Level Articles, a global digital content publishing network.
Despite Americans spending millions of dollars on video games each year, the gaming industry struggles to predict which games will generate the most revenue and attract the most fans after release.
“Game companies are spending lots of money on games that they think people are going to enjoy, but nobody will buy them. On the other hand, there are games that come out of left field that everybody’s buying,” Turney said.
