AP, or advanced placement classes, have gained a reputation for being rigorous and stressful among students. Many choose to stay away from AP classes because of the extreme challenge and stress of them, so what is a day in the life of AP students really like?

Ethan Loafman, 11, is taking five AP and Pre-AP classes, and his day consists of school, homework, and sports with little time to spend with his family.

“I wake up at 7:00 a.m.and I get to school around 8:05 a.m. I’m home by 6:00 p.m.to eat dinner and then work on homework until 10:30 p.m. on a good night. If I have a lot of homework then I will get done at 12:00 a.m. Of course I have to shower still so I go to sleep at 10:45 p.m. or 12:15 a.m on a night with lots of homework,” Loafman said.

Ultimately Loafman spends most of his time doing homework and occasionally has very little free time. In an interview with Stanford education expert Denise Pope, Stanford established that many AP students are stressed out.

“I spend around four hours on homework and rarely have two hours of personal time after finishing homework,” Loafman said.

Stanford also found that AP students have difficulty juggling extracurricular activities, homework, and getting enough sleep. Loafman, like many Rogers High School AP students, also participates in sports, but it is not added stress for him.

“I don’t get home until 6:00 p.m. because of golf,” Loafman said.
