drivers license remains No. 1 on Hot 100 for its third week according to the Billboard charts.

After finally getting her drivers license, Olivia Rodrigo released her debut single “drivers license.”

Rodrigo’s fans flocked to TikTok to share their reactions and theories over the actual meaning behind the song. The hype over the song has shown through the tremendous amount of views.

According to the Billboard charts, “it’s currently No. 1 on the U.S. daily charts for both Apple Music and Spotify, with its new high of nearly 5.7 million daily plays on the latter service outnumbering the totals of the second- through seventh-most-played songs combined, according to its listed daily tallies.”

Many listeners believe that the song blew up not only from the relatable heart-wrenching lyrics, but because of the love triangle behind the song.

Rodrigo’s co-star in High School Musical the Musical the Series and ex-boyfriend, Joshua Bassett, was rumored to be going out with a different Disney star, Sabrina Carpenter, shortly after breaking up.

“I would say that Olivia was heart broken and wrote a song to cope with her feelings, like most writers do,” said Lizzy Kaufman, 12.

Within days of releasing her tear-jerking song talking about a blonde girl who is “so much older than [her],” Carpenter released her song, “Skin.”

In the song, Carpenter references Rodrigo’s song by saying, “maybe blonde was the only rhyme.” Carpenter also says “maybe we could have been friends in another life.”

Fans were not only surprised by the drama behind the song, but they were also a little disappointed by the way Carpenter chose to handle the situation.

“Sabrina’s song was definitely too straight forward,” said Calysta Smith, 10.

Listeners have also suspected that Disney is involved in the drama, seeing how each of the three stars are part of Disney shows.

“I’m 90% sure Disney is involved because of how quickly everything got done and a line in Sabrina’s song directly quotes an episode of Girl Meets World,” said Smith.

Whether or not the intentions behind the songs were to start drama or to attract attention to Disney, there is no doubt that both of their songs exceeded fans’ expectations.

“I thought that all of the songs were great. All of the artists are very musically talented and I am so excited to hear the songs they make in the future,” said Kaufman.
